In the aerospace and defense industries, the margin for error in parts procurement is effectively nonexistent. To address the challenge of finding the right options in a vast sea of components, the National Stock Number (NSN) system was established to standardize naming conventions and quality standards for all items employed by the United States Department of Defense (DoD), NATO member nations, and beyond. Today, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) serves as the primary administrator of this system and oversees the rigorous validation process that every product and manufacturer must undergo before being assigned an NSN.
